Teen Patti is a popular skill-based card game. To win the pot in this game you must play your cards right—literally. Teen Patti, often referred to as Indian Poker or Flash, closely resembles traditional poker but has unique twists and turns.

How to play 3 patti card game?

The game is played with a standard 52 card deck and the stakes are high as each player puts in an initial bet. Once the bets are in, three cards are dealt face down to each player and the game begins. Here’s a step-by-step guide to learn Teen Patti and make every hand count!

  • Step 1: Choose a dealer

First things first let’s choose a dealer to start the game. You can do this by mutual agreement or add some excitement by drawing cards. The player with the highest card gets to be the dealer.

The dealer’s job is important—they will shuffle the deck and deal the cards to the players and set the game in motion. So, gather around and let’s find our dealer to start the fun.

  • Step 2: Put in an ante

It’s time to ante up! Before any cards are dealt, every player needs to put in a compulsory bet called an ante. This ensures there’s something at stake right from the beginning. The amount of the ante is decided by the players themselves, so everyone chips in and the game begins!

  • Step 3: Get Your cards

With the ante in, the dealer shuffles the deck and deals three cards face down to each player. Keep your cards hidden from the other players—this is the secrecy part! It adds to the suspense and strategy as you must make your moves based on your hand and the other players’ behaviour. So, glance at your cards quickly and start planning.

  • Step 4: First player

Now the game begins! Starting from the player to the left of the dealer, the action moves clockwise. Each player has two options to play: 'blind' or 'seen'. Playing blind means, you bet without looking at your cards—talk about a wild gamble! Playing seen means you look at your cards before you decide what to do. Once you’ve chosen your style you have three options: bet (increase the stakes), call (match the current bet) or fold (get out of this round).

  • Step 5: Ask for a side-show

As the game gets intense you might be confident about your hand but unsure about an opponent’s. In this case you can ask for a side-show. Here’s how it works: you ask the previous player to show their cards for a head-to-head comparison. If they accept the side-show both of you will show your hands. The player with the weaker hand must fold and the stronger hand continues. If the side-show is declined the game continues as usual. It’s a bold move so use it wisely to outsmart your opponents!

    • Trail, Set, Trio are the best hands. Three identical cards, any colour or suit (for example, A-A-A or 9-9-9 of a spade, diamond, and heart).
    • Straight Flush/Pure Sequence is the second-best hand. Three straight cards of the same suit and colour (A-2-3 of hearts, for example, or K-Q-J of clubs).
    • Run/Straight/Sequence is the third best hand. Three successive cards in distinct suits (e.g., A-2-3 or K-Q-J representing a spade, heart, and diamond).
    • Colour/Flush is the fourth best hand. Three identically suited and coloured cards, but not in the same order (for example, 9-4-3 of spades or A-K-K of hearts).
    • Pair is the fifth-best hand. Two cards of the same rank, say, A-A-9 or 5-5-J, independent of suit or colour.
    • Low Card is the worst hand. Three nonsequential cards of the same value or suit (A-9-4 with two diamonds and one spade, for example).
  • Step 6: Showdown

When the betting reaches a point where only two players are left, one of them can ask for a showdown. In a showdown both players show their cards and the one with the higher hand wins the pot. This is often the climax of the game and is full of tension and excitement.

  • Step 7: Alternative showdown

An alternative showdown can happen if the game goes on for a long time with multiple players remaining. In this case any player can ask for a showdown and all remaining players have to show their cards. The player with the highest hand wins the pot and ends the game.
