Rank of Cards
In King's Corner card game, the cards follow a standard ranking: King is the highest, followed by Queen, Jack, 10 through 2, and Ace is the lowest. This ranking determines how cards are placed during gameplay.
OBJECT OF THE GAME
Object of the Game
The primary goal of Kings Corner is to be the first player to empty your hand by strategically placing your cards on the tableau piles (the seven piles of cards in the centre of the table). You can employ planning and agility to outplay your opponents.
The Deal
To start, each player is dealt seven cards. The remaining deck is placed face-down in the centre as the draw pile. Four cards are drawn and placed face-up around it, forming a tableau. They represent the foundation piles on which players build sequences. They make the shape of a cross.
HOW TO PLAY
The King's Corner game progresses clockwise, starting with a player to the dealer's left. When it's their turn, the player can:
- Draw one card from the draw pile.
- Play cards from their hand onto the tableau piles to empty their hands, adhering to the specific Kings Corner card game rules.
- End their turn if no moves are possible.
Valid Moves
The following moves are considered valid in the Kings Corner card game:
- Sequence Building
Cards are placed in descending order and alternate colours. For example, you can place a black 9 only on a red 10.
- Playing Kings
If there is an empty tableau space, you can place a King to start a new pile in the corner. Hence, the name Kings in the corner. This move often turns the tide in your favour.
- Stacking
You can consolidate tableau piles by moving an entire sequence to another pile if it follows the descending and alternate colour rule. Doing so frees up spaces for additional moves.
- Multiple Plays
If your hand allows, you can make multiple moves in a single turn to create a sequence.
Variations of Kings of Corner Card Game
The standard rules of Kings Corner are straightforward. However, you can opt for these variations to add variety and complexity:
- Timed Play: You can introduce a time limit to each player's turn for fast-paced gameplay.
- Point-Based Scoring: Instead of winning by emptying hands, players can accumulate points based on remaining cards and the lowest score wins.
- Two-Deck Kings Corner: Ideal for larger groups, this version uses two decks. As a result, the number of cards and moves increases.
- Wildcard Rules: In this variation, you can designate specific cards like Jokers as wild and allow them to replace any card in the sequence.
- Multiple Piles: You can allow multiple piles per player to increase the complexity and make the game even more strategic.
How to Keep Score
The winning system in Kings Corner does not usually involve scoring. The first person to have successful piles and empty their hands wins. However, if you choose to keep a score, you can assign the following points to the remaining cards in the opponent's hands:
- Kings: 10 points
- Queens and Jacks: 5 points each
- All other cards: Face value
The player with the lowest cumulative score after a number of rounds wins the game.
